How to price AI visibility audits in 2026

Most freelancers price their first AI visibility audit by guesswork, and most guess low. Here are the published 2026 market bands, every figure verified against a source on 25 August 2026, and a method for picking your own number inside them.

The verified 2026 market rate for a one-off AI visibility audit is $500 to $2,000. Agency deep-dive audits run from $2,500 to $5,000 and beyond, and enterprise-grade standalone GEO audits reach $8,000 to $25,000. Monitoring retainers sit at $500 to $1,500 per month, and agencies adding GEO to existing SEO retainers report a 20 to 30% uplift on existing monthly fees.

Those are published market observations, not guarantees of what you will earn, and prices drift, so re-verify before quoting them in your own proposals. Here is each band with its source.

What each price point has to contain

Price and deliverable have to match, because the client compares both against the other quotes on their desk. At the bottom of the practitioner band, $500 to $1,000, the deliverable is the core audit: evidenced live tests, the scored diagnostic, a prioritised fix list. In the $1,000 to $2,500 tier the buyer expects competitor coverage, a citation-source analysis showing which domains the engines lean on, and a walkthrough call. Above that, the deep-dive tier adds multiple money pages, stakeholder time and implementation support. Do not stack deliverables from a higher tier into a lower price to win the job; it resets the client's expectation for every future invoice.

Why the band is so wide

The spread from $500 to $25,000 is not noise. It tracks who runs the audit and what evidence ships with it. At the bottom sits the automated scan: a crawler, a templated PDF, no human judgement. At the top sits an enterprise engagement with a named consultant, stakeholder interviews and a bespoke roadmap. The $500 to $2,000 band in the middle is the practitioner audit: a human runs live tests on real engines, evidences the findings, scores them transparently and prioritises the fixes. If that is the work you deliver, that is the band you price in.

Picking your number inside the band

  • First paying client: lower half of the band, fixed price. A fixed number is the easy yes, and the lower half of $500 to $2,000 still pays for the delivery time several times over.
  • Do not undercut below roughly £400. Under that line, the price itself tells the client this is an automated scan. You would be discounting against the wrong competitor.
  • Price the re-audit at the point of delivery. The 90-day re-test, same queries, same scoring, is the natural second invoice, and it is much easier to book on the walkthrough call than by email two months later.
  • Agencies: the bolt-on beats the standalone. The published route with the clearest revenue line is adding GEO to retainers you already hold, at the 20 to 30% uplift benchmark above.

A worked example

Say you quote $750, the lower half of the verified band, fixed price, for a local trades client. The delivery is roughly a day of focused work on your first runs: 20 minutes of live tests, 30 to 45 minutes on the dimension-by-dimension pass, five minutes of scoring, then 60 to 90 minutes assembling the client report, plus the walkthrough call. Even doubling every one of those numbers for a first attempt, the effective rate comfortably clears most freelance benchmarks, and the second audit is faster because the methodology does not change between clients. What changes is the evidence, which is the part the client is paying for.

On that walkthrough call, book the re-test: same three queries, same engines, same scoring weights, 90 days later, at a smaller fixed price. The client has just watched you walk through a date-stamped baseline, so the re-test sells itself as the way to prove the fixes moved anything. Priced at even a third of the original audit, two re-tests a quarter begin to look like the retainer figures in the table above, without the retainer sales cycle.

The objection you will hear on every call

"Can you guarantee we'll show up in ChatGPT?" The honest answer is no, and the honest answer is also the sales answer. Nobody can guarantee placements in systems whose cited sources churn daily; anyone who says otherwise is quoting confidence, not evidence. What you can guarantee is the work: an evidenced baseline, a transparent score, a prioritised plan, and a like-for-like re-test that shows exactly what moved. Clients who have been burnt by a guarantee merchant before, which by 2026 is a lot of them, tend to find that answer more persuasive than the promise they asked for.

What honest pricing pages do not claim

Nobody selling AI visibility work can honestly promise rankings, citations or placements. An independent study of 530,875 AI citations found most cited sources change day to day (GetMentions.ai, June 2026). Price the diagnostic, the evidence and the re-test, never a promised outcome. One more honesty note: a "40 to 60% monthly citation churn" figure circulates widely in secondary sources, and we could not trace it to a primary dataset, so it is deliberately absent from this page. If a benchmark cannot be traced to a primary source, do not put it in a proposal.

The proposal template with these benchmarks built in

The AI Visibility Audit Kit, £39 includes a client-facing proposal skeleton plus a pricing section built on the verified benchmarks above, alongside the white-label report template, the 8-tab scoring workbook and the prompt pack. The full claim-to-URL source table ships in the download, so your clients can check your numbers.

No visibility outcomes are guaranteed, AI engine results are volatile; this is an evidence-based diagnostic methodology. Market pricing figures are published observations, not promises of what you will earn.

The arithmetic that matters

An audit priced at the bottom of the verified band returns $500. The methodology behind it, bought once, costs £39 and is licensed for unlimited client use. Close one audit and the tooling has paid for itself more than ten times over; everything after that is margin on your time. The constraint in this market is not the tooling, it is the confidence to quote a practitioner price, which is what the published benchmarks above are for.
